Wheel Alignment 101: 3 Easy Tricks That Might Fix Your Alignment

Automotive Blog

The alignment of your tires is vitally important to your vehicle. Improper wheel alignment can lead to a wide variety of problems, including poor steering and bad fuel performance. Aside from causing issues, it can also be dangerous if your alignment is severely off. If you notice that your car is pulling to one side, you might have an alignment issue. Luckily, you can sometimes resolve these issues with these three quick tricks:

1. Remove Excess Weight

Perhaps the easiest trick for fixing your wheel alignment is to remove excess weight in your vehicle. If you are storing heavy items in your vehicle, the added weight can cause your tire alignment to be offset. Try removing the excess weight and driving. If you do not experience any more problems while driving, you might not need your tire alignment fixed just yet. However, ensure that you measure your wheels and alignment to ensure the problem is fixed. If it isn't, take your vehicle to a mechanic for help.

2. Check Tire Pressure

Another thing that might affect your wheel alignment is improperly inflated tires. Having tires that don't have enough pressure can be just as bad as tires with too much pressure. So if you are experiencing pulling or loose turns, consider checking your tire pressure. If your tires need more or less air, fix the issue and check again. Your problem just might be fixed. But even if it isn't, you will need properly inflated tires to fix the alignment anyways. So it's a win-win.

3. Not Rotating Your Tires

Finally, you might just be experiencing alignment issues because your tires need to be rotated. Among the various vehicle upkeep needed, the wheels of your vehicle need to be rotated regularly. This helps ensure that all of the tires are exposed to the elements, which helps to ensure that they wear out evenly. If your tires haven't been rotated in awhile, consider rotating them and checking the alignment again. It might just fix the issue. If it doesn't, rotating your tires is important upkeep for your vehicle. Again, it's a win-win.

As you can see, there are many simple things that might be affecting your alignment. Whether you try these tricks or not, make sure that you have your vehicle inspected by a professional. A professional can measure your wheels and ensure that they are properly aligned. They can also perform routine maintenance to ensure that your vehicle operates efficiently and safely.
